Kingspoint Crier: September 2024
Letter from the KP Presidents
Dear Kingspoint Club Members,
We hope that you had a wonderful summer at the Kingspoint Pool. Kudos to our Social Committee for organizing a very fun Labor Day Pool Party and Drool in the Pool event which officially closed out the 2024 Kingspoint Pool Season. Special thanks to Anna Thomas who set up some fun activities for the kids in the green space and for Danny Schmidt for another fun round of Diving for Dollars. We are very appreciative to everyone who purchased raffle tickets to win the handcrafted Kingspoint quilts made and generously donated by Holly Panzera, Elaine Stanhope, and Lisa Smith. Monies from this raffle will support Kingspoint Pool upgrades and congratulations to our quilt winners Mary Kate Galke and Norman Elton.
As we move into fall (and hopefully some cooler temperatures), we hope you get a chance to get outside and enjoy the natural beauty that surrounds our beautiful neighborhood and participate in some of the fun social activities planned for October including a lecture by Kingspoint resident Bryn Ghio, getting out on the water with another Club the Creek event, and celebrating Halloween at the end of the month. We also hope to add a few more social events to close out the year including a fishing derby to help support the Dock Fundraising campaign in November and an ornament crafting/x-mas movie watching event in December.
Happy Hour with Howard Hanna: Please join us for a special event open to ALL Kingspoint residents and prospective residents on Oct 23rd from 6:30 to 8:30 PM at the KP Clubhouse. Hosted by real estate agent Pernille Carter, we will enjoy light refreshments and drinks as we discuss the benefits of KP Club membership, the difference between Club membership and a traditional HOA, Club amenities, and more. Pernille has sold many homes in our neighborhood and knows the value Club membership brings to the table when selling and buying a home in Kingspoint. Club officers will also be in attendance to answer any questions you may have about joining. Current members, we invite you to join us too in fellowship and fun to share what you love about being a KP member!
Joining the Kingspoint Club means more than a fun filled summer at the pool — it’s an investment in shared community space that we hope will bring joy to residents for years to come. We’re excited about the opportunity to share how you can be a part of the Club’s future. We hope to see you there!

Kingspoint Neighborhood Association September News
We are enjoying beautiful autumn and Halloween decorations at neighbors’ homes throughout the community. Kingspoint neighbors’ generosity shines in their festive decorations celebrating the change of seasons. This cooler, damper weather feels like such a blessing after our dry summer, and Kingspoint is so beautiful as the leaves turn and berries ripen. It is common to spot unusual birds stopping here to rest during their fall migration. Hummingbirds will continue to visit our feeders for the next few months. Autumn is perhaps the best season of the year to enjoy time outdoors, especially for those of us who enjoy spotting wildlife.
As much as we enjoy the wildlife here in Kingspoint, please remember that it is illegal to feed deer between September 1 and early January because it is hunting season. Feeding them now is considered ‘baiting’ the deer. Many types of animals are on the move as they prepare to migrate or hibernate. Bears, and other animals, are attracted to many different food sources, including bird feeders, garbage cans, grills, and fruit bearing shrubs. Yes, bears sometimes wander into Kingspoint. It is amazing how keen an animal’s sense of smell can be, especially when they are searching for food.
Please bookmark the Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources website for easy reference should unusual wildlife turn up in your yard. This website aids in identifying animals and understanding their behavior. It also clarifies state laws concerning certain wildlife species. Cornwells Wildlife Control (757.264.6369) will safely remove a variety of animals from your property and will help you close openings in your home to keep wildlife out of doors.
A huge ‘Thank you!” to everyone who has worked together to make the opening of school safe and successful in the neighborhood this year. It requires our patience and consideration to work together to get everyone to work and to school on time. Let’s continue to look out for one another. As days grow shorter, please remember to carry a light or wear reflective clothing when you are walking, jogging, or biking around dawn and dusk so drivers see you.
We urge all eligible neighbors to vote in the 2024 election. Let’s set a great example for our children and teens by demonstrating our personal commitment to our nation’s future. Early voting is already in progress at the Office of Elections, 4095 Ironbound Road. This is behind the Courthouse, between Monticello Avenue and Ironbound Road. Curbside voting is available each day between 8 AM and 5 PM for those who need it. Any registered voter can vote absentee by showing up at the office with your ID, between now and November 4, 2024. If you received a ballot in the mail, then you can drop it off securely in the locked box in the lobby. Our neighborhood votes at Laurel Lane Elementary School on Election Day, November 5. You can view your registration status and make updates to your voter record if your information has changed. Here is complete information about the options available to you to vote this year.
If you have questions about this year’s ballot, visit the VOTE411.org website which is sponsored by the League of Women Voters. When you type in your address, all the candidates and issues on the ballot for our voting district will come up. This year we are voting for Presidential electors, a Congressional Senate candidate and our Representative in the House of Representatives, and there is a proposed amendment to the Virginia Constitution on the ballot. All of these are important races, and your voice matters in determining our future.
To maintain peace and harmony in our community, please respect our neighborhood custom of not posting signs or banners supporting any candidate or party on your property. While many of us are passionate about our politics, we realize that living in harmony with our neighbors is more important than advertising our opinions.
We are extremely fortunate that severe weather has missed us so far this year. Hurricane season, which lasts until November 30, can be nerve wracking. You can sign up for JCC alerts to your phone to stay in the loop when severe weather threatens. If you, or anyone in your family might need special help during or after an evacuation or other weather emergency, consider signing up for James City County’s special needs registry. This service allows our emergency services to know who may need special assistance due to mobility or other health issues. Call 757-259-3100 for more information.
Our neighborhood lost water for several hours last Saturday night while JCSA workers repaired a leak in a 2” pipe near the corner of Woodbine Court and Kingspoint Drive. Some neighbors lost water for a few hours later in the week while JCSA workers repaired an additional leak along Southpoint Drive. We’ve learned in recent years that emergency leaks in our neighborhood plumbing, broken parts, and several other issues can cause us to lose our water pressure, or even access to the sewage system, without any warning. This is annoying, particularly when we don’t receive any information through the JCC alert system. We have requested improvements in the system to alert those affected by these outages.
If you see an obvious water or sewer leak along a neighborhood street or in your yard, please call JCSA immediately (757-253-6800) to report it so they can dispatch a team to make repairs. Their after-hours number is the same as the non-emergency police dispatch number: 757-566-0112.
Considering how often we have lost our water service over the past few years, it makes sense to keep a few jugs of water on hand for emergencies. We are all advised to keep a few days’ worth of fresh, potable water during hurricane season, anyway. Keeping a few jugs of tap water handy for flushing toilets or washing hands in an emergency is a smart way to prepare for the unexpected.
If you are new to the community, or have a new family living near you, please let us know at kpwebmisstress@gmail.com so we can visit with a copy of the Kingspoint Directory and include them in the 2025 listings. And please contact KPNA Secretary Kenita Hill at secretarykpna@gmail.com to make sure you are listed in the neighborhood directory, and with any changes or updates to your listing.
We appreciate everyone who has already paid your 2024 membership dues for the neighborhood association. Your voluntary support keeps our neighborhood vibrant, beautiful, and connected. You will find more information and your membership form in your 2024 Kingspoint Directory. Our daffodil bulbs will be ready to distribute to KPNA members who requested them in early November.
Many thanks to all of our dedicated front entrance volunteers for their work. David Miller is coordinating our efforts to keep the neighborhood entrance well-maintained. Chris Bonday is continuing his ongoing efforts to keep the grass neatly trimmed and trash removed. If you are willing to join our crew of volunteers to help with maintenance chores at the entrance, please get in touch with David Miller.
Contact us at kpwebmistress@gmail.com to add your email to our distribution list, to change your email, or to have your email address removed so you no longer receive community updates.
Please visit our KPNA website for news and useful community links.
