Kingspoint Crier: December 2024
Letter from the KP Presidents
We hope that you are enjoying this 2024 Holiday Season. We are grateful for everyone who participated in Kingspoint Club events in November and December. All these events were great successes which could not have been achieved without your service and participation!
On November 10th, we had a great turnout for the Kingspoint Club Clean-up. Thanks to everyone who came out to help. Besides getting some new mulch in needed areas, there was some focused effort on cutting back some foliage, getting leaves off the pool screen, cleaning/organizing the swim team locker, and planning for renovating the pump shed for the baby pool.
On November 23rd, the Kingspoint Club (led by Dave and Lexi Stanhope) hosted the first Family Fishing Derby. We are hoping for this to be an annual event, and although the catches per person were low (we are having resident fish guy Eric Hilton check into this), everyone had a great time. There were some fun prizes, and congratulations to Simon Allen for catching the most fish (as well as the biggest and smallest fish!).
On December 7th, Anna and Penelope Thomas hosted another family friendly get-together with the annual ornament-movie party! Neighbors spent some cozy, quality time crafting, and laughing to “Elf” in the clubhouse. Thanks to all who came out to share some cheer and treat.
On December 15th, we had our last event of the year with our annual Kingspoint Luminary Night. Once again, Cove Road really stepped up this year (an impressive sight), but there were certainly other areas of the neighborhood with a great turnout of luminaries. Thanks again to Sarah Huber and Eric Hilton for organizing this wonderful community event!
Annual Meeting: The Annual Meeting is scheduled for January 21st, 2025, at 7:00 PM in the KP Clubhouse. We would like to encourage at least one person per household to attend the meeting as a quorum of regular membership is required to conduct club business. The annual meeting is our opportunity to discuss important issues impacting the Kingspoint Club and Kingspoint Neighborhood and we value the input of all our members. As in previous years, proxy forms will be available if you cannot attend. Forms will be emailed in early January.
KP Board Composition for 2025: Dave Stanhope will be stepping off the board as Facilities Chair which will now be filled by Melissa Reeves. We are thankful to Dave for all he has done for over 8 years as Facilities Chair on the KP Board! Kathryn Haines will be filling Melissa’s role as Membership Chair and Kathy Williams will be stepping onto the board as Co-President. We will not be seeking any additional members for the KP Board at this time; however, we will be still voting on this new slate of board members at the annual meeting.
2025 Board Nominees
President - Scott Lerberg
President – Kathy Williams
Secretary - Matt Blinn
Treasurer - Catherine Mountjoy
Membership – Kathryn Haines
Clubhouse - Tara Peters
Facilities – Melissa Reeves
Upcoming Kingspoint Club Volunteer Needs: Volunteering your time is so important for the health of the KP Club and we are so appreciative of those who step up to fill these very important roles. We are searching for volunteers in the following areas for 2025. Volunteering is often as important as paying your dues. So, please try to help in at least one area, and please do not assume all that work is being done by other members.
Swim Team Leadership
The KP Club is seeking volunteer support for the 2025 Kingspoint Dolphins Swim Season. We would like to secure at least one Swim Team President and Volunteer Coordinator from our resident families in the Kingspoint neighborhood (with assurances of support from our amazing leadership team in 2024). Please consider stepping up to fill these very important roles as the swim team positively impacts the Club, the neighborhood, and KP families socially, physically and financially.
Webmaster/Webmistress:
The Kingspoint Club is seeking a webmaster/editor to manage the club website and edit and publish the monthly Crier newsletter. If anyone would like to learn more about this extremely important position, we encourage you to reach out to our current Webmaster, Margaret Pizer, and if interested in filling this position in 2025, please reach out to the Kingspoint Board through kppresidents@gmail.com. The general responsibilities of this important position include the following:
Using Squarespace to make regular updates and improvements to the website.
Managing the newsletter publication schedule and soliciting content from contributors.
Editing and publishing newsletters on the website and sending email notifications to subscribers to let them know there's a new issue.
Helping the club treasurer correspond with advertisers.
Ensuring that the website is properly configured to receive payments for membership and other services.
Advising club leadership on communications strategies.
Volunteers to help with Facilities:
Volunteers to help serve on our Facilities Committee. This committee will be managed by Melissa Reeves and volunteers will help with maintenance and projects related to the pool and grounds. Being able to do a lot of this work through internal volunteers is a big cost savings for the Kingspoint Club. If anyone would like to learn more about this extremely important committee, we encourage you to reach out to out to the Kingspoint Board through kppresidents@gmail.com
Volunteers to lead Social Events: We’re excited to announce a new process for organizing social events at Kingspoint Club in 2025. Best of all, we’re inviting each of you to take the lead in bringing your vision to life!
Here’s What’s Changing:
Instead of a dedicated social committee, we’re giving every club member the opportunity to step into the role of event planner.
Whether you’ve always dreamed of designing the perfect party or you prefer a simple and straightforward approach, this is your chance to shine!
What Does It Mean to Be an Event Planner?
You’ll create the theme and vision for the event.
You’ll write 2-3 emails to club members to share the details of your event.
You’ll be on-site as the party planner on the day of the event, helping bring it all together.
You’ll enjoy the gratitude and appreciation of fellow club members for making the event possible!
Things to Know:
Decorations, games, and extra touches are entirely optional.
Keeping your event simple is perfectly fine!
Helpers will be available.
A SignUpGenius form will make coordinating easy.
You’ll receive a detailed planning guide about a month before your event.
The planning guide will help you every step of the way.
Ready to make an event your own? Follow these rules to keep your event simple!
Events should be free and open to all club members.
Events can be byob or alcohol free at the planner's discretion.
There should be no charge to attend these events.
Members should expect to bring food to share and their own adult beverages.
We’re excited to see the creativity our members will bring to these events. If this new process doesn’t work out, we can always return to a social committee in 2026. Thank you for helping make Kingspoint Club a wonderful place to gather, celebrate, and connect in 2025.
Resident Memberships: Please check to make sure your household is up-to-date on your membership.
All members must be in good standing to use the pool and clubhouse, and to vote at the annual meeting.
Quarterly paying members should have $0.00 left on their balance.
The last quarterly payment was due on October 1, 2024.
You can use this link to pay if you still need to pay any dues for 2024.
You can also send your dues via a check made out to the Kingspoint Club, Inc., P.O. Box 365, Williamsburg, VA 23187.
Not sure if you have an outstanding balance, please email Catherine Mountjoy at kpwilliamsburg@gmail.com.
Dues Increase in 2025:
One decision we will explain during the Annual Meeting on January 21st is the KP Board’s decision to raise dues for 2025.
Our expenses (pool, clubhouse, and grounds) have increased by 10-20% over the past 3 years and the Kingspoint Board has made the decision to increase our dues from $700 to $800 for 2025.
Based on an assessment by our Kingspoint Board Treasurer, it was recommended that we raise the dues to $1000 to comfortably meet expenses, rebuild the reserve, and make necessary upgrades to key facilities.
Instead of asking our members to shoulder this large increase ($700-$1000), we are increasing dues by approximately $100 with the intention of utilizing a capital campaign in the New Year to address delayed pool maintenance and necessary KP Dock safety upgrades.
We will continue to use cost-saving strategies like using pool attendants for certain pool hours and fixing pool and clubhouse repairs internally.
We strongly encourage all members to pay in full by February 28th. This action will help to minimize the amount of follow-up work for our volunteers. It will also allow the Club to earn extra yearly interest because we will have a larger balance in the back throughout the year. For those using a credit card for this payment, we will be adding a fee of $25 to cover the cost the club incurs on each credit card transaction.
For those who can’t make a one-time payment by February 28th, we will offer the following payment plans: Quarterly or Monthly. The KP Club recognizes that a payment plan may work best with your family’s budget. We would like to offer members the option of setting up recurring payments through our stripe account that automatically charges the credit card. If this is the case, please understand that we will be adding a small fee to cover the added work of our volunteers, the loss of annual interest, and any stripe or credit card company fees the Club incurs when payments are made. We will be instituting a fee of $10 per transaction if paying quarterly. Members on this payment plan will pay $210 quarterly. We will be instituting a fee of $5 per transaction if paying monthly. Members on this payment plan will pay $72 monthly.
Capital Campaign for the Dock: A huge THANK YOU to some generous KP Club Members who recently made donations dedicated toward the rebuilding of the Kingspoint Dock! A Joint Permit Application for rebuilding the Kingspoint Dock has been submitted to VMRC and we hope to start work on the new dock by the spring of 2025. If you would also like to make a gift to the Capital Campaign for the Dock, we welcome all donations, large and small. Gifts may be dropped off to the Treasurer, Catherine Mountjoy at 140 Kingspoint Drive (please call/text 804-814-7600 to let her know) OR they can be mailed to the following address: Kingspoint Club, P.O. Box 365, Williamsburg, VA 23187.
The KP Boat Rack: The canoe/kayak racks were extremely popular this year, and we will be doing another lottery for the 2025 calendar year.
Lottery forms will be emailed to all club members in early January.
The drawing will take place at the end of January.
Having a boat spot in 2024 does not guarantee you a spot in 2025.
All spots are based on the lottery system, and you will need to enter the 2025 lottery if you would like one.
If you have not paid your 2024 dues or boat rack fees, you will not be eligible for the 2025 lottery.
Please contact KP Club Treasurer, Catherine Mountjoy, if you still need to pay your 2024 dues or boat rack fees.
Clubhouse for Rent: Don't forget the KP clubhouse is always open for business! Need to host a meeting? A birthday? A baby shower? A graduation? A retirement? A book club? A work function? We want to host your next event! It takes money and labor to maintain our lovely clubhouse so rental money is greatly needed and appreciated. Spread the word, our beautiful facility is available for rent and has the best rates in town. Please contact Tara Peters @ kpclubrentals@gmail.com more information or if you would like to rent the Clubhouse.
Thank You,
Scott Lerberg & Kathyrn Haines

Kingspoint Neighborhood Association December News
There is a growing feeling of excitement during the holidays in Williamsburg. There are so many interesting things to do, great opportunities to shop, and beautiful places to visit. Colonial Williamsburg will spread its Grand Illumination events over three weekends again this year: December 7, 14, and 21. We will likely hear the fireworks here in Kingspoint. You can enjoy this and many other holiday events and opportunities at Colonial Williamsburg in December. You can enjoy the Christmas Market on Court Street, weekends through December 24. And Busch Gardens has its annual Christmas Town again this year. It will be a busy month in our area!
Yuko Sato has worked her floral magic again this year with beautiful evergreen arrangements on the Kingspoint sign at our entrance. We appreciate Yuko’s dedication to this annual project, her creativity and skill; and we appreciate those families who donated greenery from their yards for the arrangements. David and Wendy Miller have also decorated the entrance with festive lights.
Special thanks to all those who have served on or volunteered to work with our Neighborhood Association Board this past year. Our very talented and generous volunteers have repaired and installed signs, blown leaves, mown grass, pulled weeds, painted, picked up trash, pruned, raked, mulched, and generally pitched in to help this year. Our community is better for the volunteer efforts of so many generous neighbors. Pam Young joined the KPNA Board as a member at large in recent weeks and will begin her work with us by working with Harvey Manning in visiting new neighbors. We are extremely happy to welcome Pam to our team.
Our Board members do so much quiet work behind the scenes. We appreciate everyone who greets and talks with neighbors new and old, those who help keep our Directory up to date, those who distribute the Directories, manage the finances, and work with the companies we collaborate with to get things done. Many hands make light work.
This is the season of gratitude for our many blessings as individuals, families, and as a community. We remember many friends and neighbors who are no longer living with us in Kingspoint and the many contributions they made to our community. We are also grateful for new friendships with families who have joined us over the past year. Our community continues to grow and thrive. Best wishes to all for the weeks of celebration ahead.
We are already enjoying holiday lights and beautiful decorations that neighbors share with us each December. This is 'the season of light' for many of us, and the comfort we take in candlelight and holiday lights during this darkest time of the year unites us. Our beautiful neighborhood is especially festive during the holidays, thanks to the efforts of so many.
We welcome many guests to our community during the holidays. Please ask your guests and visitors to drive cautiously, with an eye out for children, pets, and neighbors out walking. Now that days are growing shorter, please take extra care to make sure you are visible when you are out walking, jogging, or biking so there are no close calls with drivers. Lights and reflective clothing will help ensure your safety and alleviate stressful moments for folks heading out in the morning or coming home at dusk.
County residents may drop off leaves free of charge at the Jolly Pond Convenience Center, 1204 Jolly Pond Road, daily between 7 a.m.-5 p.m. through January 12. (In past years, Christmas trees were also accepted in late December and January.) Leaves dropped off by residents will only be accepted in clear bags no larger than lawn or leaf-size (40 gallons or less). Outside of these dates, residents must buy ‘coupons’ to drop off yard waste.
Leaves must be in clear bags and left at the curb by 8 AM on December 1 for free county pick-up. The county will provide one round of curbside leaf collection, and leaves will be picked up in Kingspoint December 8-14. No other yard debris, such as downfall limbs, will be collected.
Here are some tips and standards for recycling holiday waste. Trash and recycling pick- up schedules tend to get off this time of year due to holidays and winter weather. Please check with your trash provider for any schedule changes.
James City County plans to give native trees to homeowners who request them. Residents can sign up now to receive up to five seedling trees in the spring. Our neighborhood was completely wooded before it was developed, and we can regain that woodland character by replacing trees lost over the years. Learn more about our native indigenous trees here, where they are listed and described by their mature height. You’ll find a wide variety of garden articles and other useful information on the James City and Williamsburg Master Gardener website. Applications for this winter’s Master Gardener home visit Pruning Clinic are now open.
If you are new to the community, or have a new family living near you, please let us know at kpwebmisstress@gmail.com so we can visit with a copy of the Kingspoint Directory and include them in the 2025 listings. And please contact KPNA Secretary Kenita Hill at secretarykpna@gmail.com to make sure you are listed in the neighborhood directory, and with any changes or updates to your listing.
Contact us at kpwebmistress@gmail.com to add your email to our distribution list, to change your email, or to have your email address removed so you no longer receive community updates.
Please visit our KPNA website for news and useful community links.
